The Thunder 255 is a versatile work horse product designed for multiple processes. Whether you need the machine for MIG, DC TIG, or Stick welding, the unit can fit most any welding shop with welding needs as a fabrication or production welder.  The legendary IGBT inverter powered technology that Everlast uses in this unit is digitally controlled with a microprocessor to deliver the most stable and controlled arc possible in a wide variety of circumstances. The Thunder 255 also gives the user a broad range of functions, features as well as a wide range of adjustment not found on other welders in this welder class.  It is also additionally supported long term with Everlast's Platinum 5 year warranty and is further backed with a 3 year shipping coverage protection if warranty support is ever needed.

With a built in wire feeder, the Thunder 255 functions well as both a standard MIG (Short Arc and Spray) and a Pulsed Spray MIG (Single Pulse) welder with function selections for both.  In addition, this model also has selections for FCAW and FCAW-P (Self-Shielded Flux Core and Gas Shielded Flux-Core) wires.

Minimum/Maximum:

MIG:

  • Weld up to a maximum of 7/16" Steel/Stainless single pass
  • Weld over 3/4" Steel/Stainless multi-pass
  • Weld a minimum of 24 gauge Steel/Stainless

For MIG welding Aluminum, use the supplied 10 ft MIG gun, U-groove drive rolls and the polymer liner (best choice for shorter distances).  For longer required distances, choose between the Parker SG360A Push-Pull Gun (Recommended for longer distances) or the Parker DSP 360 (Recommended for small weld quantities/longer distances)  For Brazing, follow same recommendations for gun selection.

  • Weld up to a maximum of 3/8" in a single pass weld Aluminum
  • Weld over 3/4" in multiple pass welds Aluminum
  • Weld a minimum of 14 Gauge Aluminum

TIG:

  • Weld up to a maximum of 1/2" single pass
  • Weld up to a maximum of 3/4" multi-pass
  • Weld a minimum of .015" thick

Stick:

  • Weld with a maximum of 3/16" diameter electrode
  • Weld with a minimum of 1/16" diameter electrode

Maximum electrode thickness is ultimately dependent upon electrode type and electrode manufacturer.

Notes:

Use only with a clean power rated (clean sine wave) generator that produces no more than 5% THD distortion.  Use with only with a generator capable of producing a minimum of 13, 000 surge watts.

This unit may require the purchase of additional drive rolls, MIG guns, and MIG gun liners to weld with wire smaller than .045".  Additionally, this gun is designed for primarily axial spray (spray arc) welding.  For best results with smaller liners, purchase a 24 series MIG gun and a blue liner for .035" diameter wire. A teflon liner is required for aluminum along with U groove drive rolls.

Wire use with .023" and .030" wire will require a 15 series gun for best operation (in addition to the correct sized drive rolls).

Extensive or dedicated Flux-Cored use will require a special flux cored gun, not supplied by Everlast.
